Greening your home tips

  • Install a programmable Thermostat
  • Use an electrostatic air filter that is cleanable with a hose ( saves time and waste)
  • Clean your air filters frequently! ( a dirty air filter increases your heating and air costs and makes a dirtier home)
  • Caulk all electrical outlets, switches, and ceiling fixtures under the plates where the sheetrock meets the box
  • Change all your lighting to flourescents if possible ( Warm white bulbs interior bulbs and outdoor floods now available by the case at Lowes Home Improvement) This will reduce your impact on the environment and reduce lighting costs up to 75%)  Australia has now banned the sale of Incandescent lights and other countries are following suit.

  • Re-insulate your attic, it can be an 18% return on investment!  and make sure you have plenty of ventillation.
  • Have all your ductwork sealed with duct mastic. Many homes are losing 30% of their systems heating and air from leaks

  • Buy Energy Star equipment for all appliances. It really saves $ and the planet.
